His leap into public awareness however, occurred when he was chosen - from among many contestants - to play the lead part of Claude, as both actor and singer - in the musical "Hair".
His tall (190 cm) and somewhat ascetic figure, adorned with long hair and cloaked in hippie-style lace and velvet, astonished the audience, the Israeli media and the entertainment world, creating an image of a character "from somewhere else".
And indeed, at the beginning of the 1970's, on the backdrop of the Israeli singers and their singing style - Svika was really something new, exciting and different - from another world.
On the opening night of the musical "Hair" it was clear to all - a star was born! Svika Pick, at that time still a "boy", astonished the conventional Israeli audience with his different look, nasal voice, distinct and unique singing style, the ribbons and adornments, and of course with his wild and sexy performances on stage - all seen and heard for the first time in Israel.

The force behind Pick's meteoric rise to the top of the Israeli entertainment world - at least in the beginning - were the teenagers.
Svika was the star of a musical portraying teenage rebellion against adults and the establishment, his voice and singing style were strange and innovative, his sexy movements on the stage were exhilarating and daring and the image and character he portrayed in his concerts was adventurous and irresponsible, rebelled against conventions, loved life and lived the moment.
In short - Svika represented all the characteristics and experiences admired by youth throughout the ages.

The Israeli public was ready and open to accept and admire the new artist.
"Hair" was a staggering success and overnight Svika Pick became a superstar of the kind not known before in Israel: hordes of hysterical fans, fainting young girls, police barricades at performances, body guards, fan mail, postcards, his clothes torn wherever he went - all the symbols of pop culture penetrated Israel at the speed of light - along with Svika Pick.
Within several months Svika Pick became the King of Pop - a title he holds to this day.

As an idol and a superstar Svika Pick was subjected by his loyal fans to the ritual of clothes being torn, only one of the many expressions of admiration bordering on the hysteria which included, fainting, ecstatic behavior and human siege in the hope of touching the superstar.
These expressions quickly attracted the interest of journalists, educators, sociologists and psychologists who analyzed this rare sensation.
However, while the media fostered the legend called Svika Pick, trying to analyze its erotic and psycho-social aspects, and the youngsters continued to idolize him, Svika astounded with his music, songs and hits - just like a great composer! How characteristic of a Libra!

Throughout his career, on and off stage, Svika continues to demonstrate the most prominent quality of the Libra - doing something and its opposite at the same time. On the one hand - an anti-establishment youth idol, and on the other, singing the song "Shma Yisrael" at the Hassidic Song Festival and composing the music to the words of Shaul Tshernihovsky's song "A Rose of Wonder". A Rock n' Roller in his heart who grew up in discotheques frequented by the fringe crowd, Svika Pick is an original composer and a serious musician, with broad and solid musical training. On the one hand a family man (3 children) and on the other a scandalous figure whose name has been linked to an endless line of affairs with models and beauty queens.
